Is there any limit to what can be accomplished by the wonders of 3D printing technology? Sure, we’ve all seen some great functional – and even super-creative – printed pieces, but what about the distinctly sweeter side? The innovators over at the Sugar Lab in LA are taking a new approach to technology and art by candy-coating the whole process with their breathtaking sugar sculptures.

Each sugar sculpture is created using a 3D printing process, and each is totally edible or can be used as an uber-modern cake topper. The idea for these delicious decorations came to the married couple behind the Sugar Lab when they were faced with the task of making a birthday cake for a friend without access to a working oven. Obviously, their yummy results truly prove that necessity is the mother of invention (not to mention confection)!
